Exhibition | UPR Architecture School
In February 2011 ae.i.ou set up an exhibition at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Architecture. The exhibit includes all of ae.i.ou’s past and present explorations ranging from the series PR Post-Montage to more current analyses of social, political and economic information.
Exposición “Pocket” en cART-Watch
En febrero 24, 2011 el espacio alternativo Cart Watch inauguró la exposición colectiva “Pocket” que integra obras en pequeño formato de 108 artistas y diseñadores. Los curadores y coordinadores de cART-Watch — Martín Albarrán y Jaime Rodríguez – convocaron a los participantes a trabajar piezas en pequeño formato de 6×6 pulgadas.
80 grados | Ciudad del futuro
El 25 de Febrero del 2011 Mariana Reyes Angleró publicó el artículo titulado “Ciudad del futuro” en 80 Grados, donde expandió sobre el trabajo de ae.i.ou, problemas urbanos, y consideraciones para el futuro. 80 Grados es una revista de ideas, crónicas y reportajes que motiva un intercambio fecundo e imaginativo entre lectores y colaboradores. 1er Encuentro | Nueva Criminología
Durante los días 17 y 18 de febrero de 2011 se llevo acabo el 1er Encuentro Académico para la Nueva Criminología organizado por el Programa de Justicia Criminal de la Universidad Interamericana de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Ponce. El Encuentro incluyó además la exposición del fotomontaje “Puerto Rico Post-Montaje” de los jóvenes arquitectos boricuas, Víctor Nieto y Pedro Santa…
SRJP III | Antropología Urbana
El sábado 12 de febrero de 2011 se celebró la apertura del tercer proyecto de la Serie Regional de Jugadores Pampers en el Museo del Arsenal de la Antigua Marina Española en la Puntilla, donde ae.i.ou exhibió la pieza “Des-Control de Acesso” por vez primera. La SRJP III es proyecto curatorial y expositivo llevado a cabo con el propósito de promover el arte contemporáneo joven del país.
“Imagining the Future”
On February 15, 2011, the day before the opening of ae.i.ou’s exhibition and lecture at the UPR, Leyra E. González Pérez wrote the article “Imagining the Future” in the Culture Section of El Nuevo Día Newspaper. In it she introduced the focus and the critical approaches embedded in ae.i.ou’s work.

El Charrette 2011: Cuidades del Futuro fue un evento dedicado a explorar ideas y visiones de desarrollo para el futuro de Puerto Rico. Este contó con la participación de ae.i.ou, la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, la Escuela de Arquitectura de la Universidad Politécnica de Puerto Rico, la Escuela de Arquitectura Paisajista de la Universidad Politécnica de Puerto Rico.
Lecture | UPR Architecture School
In February 16, 2011 at 6:30pm, ae.i.ou presented a lecture of their work and current explorations at the main auditorium of the UPR School of Architecture. This event was our first large scale public lecture and the most thorough explanation of our work amongst our three previous speaking engagements. Our presentation served also as the first lecture of 2011 Lecture Series of the UPR School of Architecture.

From January 20 to May 27, 2011 ae.i.ou’s entry “Weaving Detroit’s Information Silos” will be on view at SUPERFRONT LA in the exhibition DETROIT: A BROOKLYN CASE STUDY, Curated by Chloë Bass + Mitch McEwen.
Weaving Detroit’s Information Silos
Recently ae.i.ou was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 25inchRFP competition of the “Detroit: A Brooklyn Case Study” organized by SUPERFRONT. The proposal, titled “Weaving Detroit’s Information Silos”, will be exhibited in Superfront’s Pacific Design Center in a corresponding exhibit that opens January 20 and will remain on view through May 27.

Hace un tiempo ae.i.ou se reunió con el Arq. Rafael Castro Montes de Oca, Presidente de el CAAPPR, para tener una conversación acerca de la contaminación visual en Puerto Rico. Discutimos entre varias cosas como ciertos tipos de anuncios invaden e interrumpen a los espacios públicos de la cuidad.

II Moscow Biennale for Young Art
In the summer of 2010 ae.i.ou participated in the II Moscow International Biennale for Young Art in Russia where the series PR Post Montage represented Puerto Rico in the GLOB(E)SCAPE exhibit at the Artplay Design center. The curator Daria Pyrkina, points out that “the exhibition Glob(E)Scape is devoted to the Earth’s modern global landscape and the problems faced by the inhabitants of modern megacities and global villages.”

In October 2009, ae.i.ou was invited to publish in the international renown journal Archivos de Arquitectura Antillana. The issue, published in April 2010, featured articles from Alex Martínez Suárez, Marcos Barinas Uribe, Melisa Vargas, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Marcos Blonda, etc. and covered topics from contemporaneity and tourism to politics.

In September of 2009 ae.i.ou was invited to participate in RUS San Juan, one episode of the Basurama Collective’s (www.basurama.org) Urban Solid Waste Project thought Latin America and the Caribbean. Sponsored by the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art, RUS San Juan dealt with the activation of public spaces that are linked to the local public transportation infrastructure.
Muestra Nacional 2009
En el mes de diciembre 2009 – hasta febrero 2010, ae.i.ou participó de la Muestra Nacional del Programa de Artes Plásticas del Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña. Esta muestra fue una exposición colectiva que presento las principales tendencias del arte puertorriqueño, contando con “artistas de cuatro generaciones diferentes que demostraron la amplitud y magnitud de la creatividad contemporánea, presentando una vista panorámica del arte actual puertorriqueño.”
ae.i.ou at Culturas Pixeladas_GSD
In Fall 2009 the Latin GSD Student Organization put up an exhibition titled “Culturas Pixeladas | Projects in Latin America and the Caribbean” in the student wall of Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. The main premise of the exhibition was to present projects that highlight the pixelated nature of opportunities, threats and other aspects of popular culture in Latin America and the Caribbean.
…between infrastructure & zoning
This image attempts to depict the frictions that exist between backbone car infrastructure and zoning. From the post-war highway act of the 50’s to the present alternating effects of laissez-faire and planning (cycles of ‘booms and bursts’) it is evident that the quick returns of automobile driven horizontal expansion have almost completely erased coherent zoning practices. No wonder “parking” thrones a zoning of its own.

En septiembre del 2009 ae.i.ou participó en la exhibición “ESTADO DE ALARMA”; una exposición colectiva de arte por Karlo Ibarra, Nina Méndez Martí y el colectivo ae.i.ou. Esta se llevo acabo en la Galería Yemayá donde cada cual intervinió en una de las tres salas de la galería.
San Juan Submerged
Studies conducted by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) agree that sea level rise is directly linked to global warming. In the last 100 years the planet has warmed by 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit and sea levels have increased by 1 to 2 millimeters each year.

In the field of architecture and urban design, the photomontage, has become the essential medium for the visualization of un-built projects. Through photographic manipulation, the architect and urban designer can now create a visual narrative of the experience of the project before it is built.
